Hirohiko Araki's self-insert character, Rohan Kishibe, is back again for another story in live-action. Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe: At a Confessional adapts the title character's first solo one-shot, originally published in Weekly Shonen Jump 1997 #30. The new film, which sees actor Issei Takahashi reprising his role as the titular character, will be released in Japanese cinemas on May 23, 2025.
Along with the announcement of the new film a short teaser trailer was released.
The new movie was filmed entirely on location in Venice, the same setting as the original one-shot, led by director Kazutaka Watanabe from a screenplay by Seiko Kobayashi. The original one-shot this film is based on sees Rohan vacationing in Italy, where he accidentally enters the priest's compartment of a confessional in a church he was viewing for his research. A stranger then enters the confessional and starts to confess the sins that led him to his current state in life. The director, Watanabe, describes the film's adaptation of this story as one of a "curse but also of love and resolve".
At a Confessional is the second full-length film in the live-action Rohan Kishibe series, with the Rohan au Louvre film released in 2023. These films extend the 4 mini-series seasons of episodes that adapt a mix of the existing Rohan Kishibe one-shots, stories from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure featuring the character, and short stories adapted to the series. Much like these original one-shots, the stories in the live-action series do not occur on a fixed timeline, with At a Confessional's source material being the first one-shot of the series which is numbered as the 16th chapter.
More details on the film are sure to come as we get closer to its May 2025 release date, in the meantime you can check out comments from the revealed cast & crew on its official website.
