Shuzo Oshimi is penning a manga adaptation of The Mouths, a horror novel by author Sesuji, for Jump Plus.
As an adaptation, this project is part of a broader multimedia strategy centered around the novel's live action film, directed by Ju-On creator Takashi Shimizu and starring Rihito Itagaki. That film released on July 3 in Japanese theaters, with Oshimi's manga starting the day after. It is confirmed to be a short serialization, which isn't exactly surprising given that the original work is just 63 pages long.
What's arguably most interesting about this project is the fact that it is Oshimi's first series published by Shueisha, let alone Jump Plus. Up until this point, the artist has almost exclusively published through Kodansha and Shogakukan, so it's somewhat unusual to put out work for the other big publisher. Perhaps this is the natural conclusion to the various dilemmas posed by Sound of a Blink.
