Students from Tama Art University are bringing back their popular “Pokémon Upcycle Sculpture” project later this month, and it’s bigger than ever.
The exhibition, titled “Art & Environmental Education 4: Think with Pokémon,” features a massive collection of 91 Pokémon sculptures. The catch? Every single one is made from household waste, scrap materials, and even marine plastic trash.

What started a few years ago with just 20 pieces has evolved into a nearly triple-digit collection of sculptures. This year’s lineup includes fan favorites like Gengar and Garchomp, alongside newcomers like Oshawott and Aron. It’s a pretty clever way to talk about the environment—showing how “trash” can be transformed into high-tier art with a little creativity.
There are also some additional hands-on activities. On March 29 and April 5, elementary schoolers can join a workshop to build their own Pokéball out of recycled fireworks shells. Plus, there’s a spot where anyone can make a “Smile Pikachu” using recycled yellow gloves from local litter-picking events.
It’s a great mix of nostalgia and sustainability. Whether you’re a hardcore collector or just appreciate some impressive student art, it’s definitely worth the pit stop.
