Tetsuya Nomura and Tai Yasue talked to Famitsu after the D23 event on August 15, revealing more tidbits about the upcoming Kingdom Hearts IV.
First of all, it was explained that the title will not feature as many different Disney-themed worlds as previous entries in the series. While the decision to include Coco was taken early on in development, the team is focusing on quality over quantity this time around. Nomura promised that the level of detail for each world would be more than ever before.
In the midst of talking about the process of voice recording, Nomura also revealed that the script for Kingdom Hearts IV is about two times longer than Kingdom Hearts III, which was already pretty hefty. The director even wanted to put in more dialogue, but the recording schedule only allowed for so much. Anyone who isn't on board with complicated lore and lengthy exposition dumps seems to be out of luck.
Even so, Disney's involvement this time around has forced the team to consider the accessibility of the story, particularly as it relates to the series' many spinoffs. During development, explanatory documents needed to be prepared for the company, which in turn helped developers understand what was going on. Characters that also first appeared in mobile games such as Vali and Sigurd will also receive proper introductions for fans seeing them for the first time.
