Nintendo has revealed more information about the upcoming Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave in a dedicated Direct broadcast.
In a large departure from previous installments in the series, the main focus of Fortune's Weave revolves around combat in a single arena instead of multiple different encounters across a long campaign. Players can choose to play as four distinct heroes with different origins, all of which are participating in tournament known as 'The Heroic Games'. That being said, battles outside of the arena and dungeons can still be experienced when venturing into the overworld.
The core gameplay loop appears to consist of training, recruiting allies, and completing quests to strengthen your character before matches. What's more, engaging in these activities ticks down an in-game timer, drawing some comparisons to the calendar system of the Persona series. Of course, Fire Emblem has had something akin to Social Links for decades now.
Moreover, the story here seems absolutely bonkers. It turns out that the aforementioned four heroes are actually doomed to disappear in some sort of calamity not long after the end of the Heroic Games. The true protagonist of Fortune's Weave is actually a nameless figure in the future who is tasked with holding back the forces of evil by calling on the powers of the heroes in the past using... time travel?
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave releases for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17.
