Giant, readable manga volumes have appeared on the wall of Tokyo's subway system to celebrate 50 years of Hakusensha's LaLa magazine.

Located in the corridor between the east and west exit of the Marunouchi Line in the underground portion of Shinjuku Station, these books are not just meant for display. Passers-by can walk up to them and physically leaf through their giant pages on a whim, making for a very unique reading experience.

Currently, the line-up consists CIPHER by Minako Narita, Ouran High School Host Club by Bisco Hatori, and Natsume's Book of Friends by Yuki Midorikawa.

One thing to bear in mind is that while the giant books bear the cover design for the first volume of each respective series, the contents within are actually a collection of key scenes from across the story. Even so, the visual impact alone should be enough to make anyone stop for a second in the middle of their busy commute.

Indeed, images of punters interacting with the display have already started to make the rounds on social media.

Considering the amount of footfall that passes through the Marunouchi Line, let alone Shinjuku Station everyday, you would expect these books to wear out very quickly. Perhaps it should therefore come as no surprise to learn that the reading experience is only available from 10AM to 8PM. It will run until July 26.
