An exhibition based on the works of Kazuki Takahashi, best known as the creator of Yu-Gi-Oh!, will open in Tokyo this winter. Details on exactly when and where are scarce, but more information is apparently on the way towards the end of August.
Despite Takahashi's long career and legendary status within the world of Japanese pop culture, this is apparently the first event of its kind. Putting aside the continued success of Yu-Gi-Oh! for a second, Takahashi remained active from his debut in 1981 all the way up until his heroic death from drowning in 2022. Secret Reverse, a collaboration between Marvel Comics and Shueisha, was published on Jump Plus in two parts in 2019.
That being said, it does seem like the focus is on Takahashi's most famous series this time around as the exhibition is subtitled 'Yu-Gi-Oh! Art Works'. Continuing on this theme, the voice actors for both Yugi Mutou and Seto Kaiba provided comments to celebrate the occasion.
Shunsuke Kazama, voice of Yugi:
[...] Through Yu-Gi-Oh!, Takahashi-sensei was able to transcend time and create a story that moves the very soul. As long as we continue to love his works, I believe that Takahashi-sensei's soul will continue to live on. I hope that this exhibition allows many fans to see his work first hand and experience his living soul.
Kenjiro Tsuda, voice of Kaiba:
I once saw Takahashi-sensei draw an illustration board for a fan. Not only did he sign it, he also draw an illustration. It was like magic. Just like that, Yugi and Kaiba came alive on the page! [...] Duelists! Don't miss this opportunity to see Takahashi-sensei's artwork! He's still there, alive in the pages!
