Four years after shutting down its servers, the beloved rhythm game Uta Macross: Smartphone De Culture is officially returning. AUGUST Inc. and original developer xeen have teamed up with copyright holder BIGWEST to launch the Uta Macross Revival Project, rebuilding the title as a standalone premium game for Steam, iOS, and Android with a targeted Spring 2027 release.
Producer Kei Hirono revealed that the revival was driven directly by persistent fan demand. Unlike its previous free-to-play iteration, the new version strips away standard mobile monetization barriers. The Standard Edition will launch with roughly 50 classic tracks spanning the franchise’s history, over 1,000 top-tier rarity Plates, and more than 20 unlockable outfits per singer. The gacha mechanic remains intact for unlocking special performances, but with a massive catch: pulls are entirely free and unlimited.
Key updates for the resurrected rhythm game include:
Expanded Platform Support: Mouse and keyboard controls optimized alongside classic touch inputs for Steam.
Massive Base Content: Full access to characters and music across The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Macross Plus, Macross 7, Macross Frontier, and Macross Delta.
DLC Expansion: Simultaneous DLC packs planned at launch to bring over remaining legacy tracks, outfits, and illustrations.
To scale up the release and potentially add even more post-launch content, AUGUST Inc. is launching a CAMPFIRE crowdfunding campaign on September 10, 2026. Higher funding tiers will dictate potential console ports and additional DLC tracks. Fans looking to back the project or grab exclusive rewards can already preview the campaign on CAMPFIRE or wishlist the game on Steam ahead of the pledge window opening.
