Bandai Namco has revealed more details about the upcoming card game based on Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto, including card art and how to play.
In the Naruto Card Game, players battle with a deck of 57 cards comprised of five types: Leader cards, Character cards, EX Character cards, Chakra cards, and Summon cards. You can use Summon cards to play Character and EX Character cards for offensive purposes, as well as Chakra cards to block your opponent's attacks. The game ends when the life of either players' Leader is reduced to zero.
Those familiar with the ONE PIECE Card Game will recognize the Leader system, but there is no life shield mechanic this time around. In fact, the gameplay marks a fairly large departure from recent card games put out by Bandai, most notably the Gundam Card Game. Players will have an opportunity to experience the mechanics firsthand at a series of upcoming tutorial sessions around the world.
In terms of card art, the Naruto Card Game will use assets from the original manga and anime adaptation as well as new, exclusive illustrations from famous artists. Eagle-eyed viewers have already pointed out that Peach Momoko appears to have contributed an illustration of Tsunade, but this is not confirmed yet. Characters from Naruto, Naruto: Shippuden, and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations will all feature in the game.
Even though the market for trading card games is becoming increasingly crowded, you can't dispute the fact that a Summer 2027 launch is great timing considering that casting for the live action movie is currently underway.
