The Naruto franchise has revealed a three year road map of upcoming projects, including a new manga by original creator Masashi Kishimoto.
Known as Project Rasengan, this slate was shown off for the first time during the NARUTO: What's Next? panel at New York Comic Con on October 11. While some of the features had already been announced, such as the Naruto trading card game and limited anime series that was originally supposed to broadcast in 2023, some came as a surprise. One truly unexpected announcement was the fact that the Naruto mobile game developed by Chinese developer More Fun Studio would be getting an international version.

By far the most shocking news, however, was that Kishimoto would be returning to the series that launched his star nearly three decades ago. Plot details are currently scant for Naruto: Shadow Rising, but the assumption based on the rough visuals shown off in the trailer is that this new manga will finally tell the story of how Naruto became the Seventh Hokage of Konohagakure. More will be revealed at this year's Jump Festa event.
Just how this will affect Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is anyone's guess.
