More than 4 years after the end of season 3, the Matsuno brothers are coming back for the fourth season of Mr. Osomatsu in July 2025. In addition to the titular sextuplets, series story composer Shu Matsubara and character designer Eiji Abiko will be returning to their roles. Yoshinori Kodaka will be taking the mantle of director for the TV series for the first time, previously working on the franchise's 2nd movie The Hippipo Tribe and the Shining Fruit.
Alongside the announcement, a promotional key-visual and accompanying teaser PV were released.
While a new TV anime hasn't been aired since 2021, the brothers have remained a constant presence in Japan with several animated movies, a live action movie, stage plays, and even a dog-themed series called Matsu Inu airing in the years in-between. Series story composer Matsubara has hinted that some of the new stories will include elements that play into the timing of its broadcast, with themes based on the summer season. The teaser image also seems to hint at this with the brothers relaxing in what appears to be a nice, clear day.
Mr. Osomatsu has been a pretty consistent hit since its return in 2015. Based on the original "Osomatsu-kun" series by creator Fujio Akatsuka, the new series ages up the brothers and gives them unique personalities as a means of telling them all apart. The show maintains the spirit of the original gag manga, with the characters constantly getting into ridiculous situations and often causing trouble for their supporting cast.
The first 3 seasons have already featured some absolutely silly episodes, so it'll be fun to see what the staff comes up with for this next go around.
