The Asagaya Drift club and event space has announced a series of new policies following a harassment case that has rippled through the Tokyo scene, along with a new date for reopening.
Former manager Kaita Tsuchiya was accused of sexual harassment and verbal assault earlier this month. On June 14, Tsuchiya announced that he had stepped down from his position and would no longer be involved in the club scene. Events at the venue have been suspended since the incident, but a recent announcement yesterday confirmed that regular business would resume in August.

Given the claims, Asagaya Drift has seen fit to install a series of security cameras across the space to prevent any further incidents. What's more, club owner Ryosuke Kuwae has committed to taking a harassment seminar twice a year and sharing this knowledge with employees. Event organizers are also being asked to read a memo on the subject in advance.
As a venue, Asagaya Drift has long been an incubator for subculture and a firm favorite of the scrmbl team. While the initial incident was both disheartening and disappointing, it's good to see that concrete action has been taken to make it the last. Bookings are being taken now ahead of the August reopening, but a cassette tape DJ event will take place this Sunday.
