Good Smile Company, one of Japan's largest manufacturer and distributor of hobby goods, has announced a new robot anime project by the name of Gattai Shin Series. The first part of this project, a series called Jyuo Mujin Dandivine, will air in October.
2026 marks 25 years since Good Smile Company was founded in 2001. The Gattai Shin Series is intended as a celebration of this, but it's not just another multimedia project. During the press conference, chairman Takanori Aki remarked that "This isn't just a new anime and toy line [...] This is a once in a lifetime challenge for us."
Part of the challenge comes from the scope of the project. While the first entry in the Gattai Shin Series will air this October, there are others planned for 2027 and 2028 as part of a larger roadmap. Furthermore, each series will have a different concept, connecting to the rich legacy of robot anime as well as looking forward to the future.
As for Jyuo Mujin Dandivine, Liden Films and Kayak Animation will provide the animation with Yi Cao as director. Takuma Terashima stars as protagonist Gekiha Shijima, while Haruka Shiraishi and Saya Aizawa voice the main character's girlfriend and sister respectively. Takanori Nishikawa is providing the opening theme song.
This isn't the first time that Good Smile Company has launched a mixed media robot project. Just last year, it announced Valkyrie Tune: a new line of humanoid plastic model kits that has since been turned into a novel game. Liden Films is also part of Ultra Super Pictures, a joint holding company partially owned by Good Somile Company that includes Studio Trigger and Sanzigen.
