A life-sized figure containing Sonic the Hedgehog's "DNA" will be revealed to the public on June 23, showing off what makes the iconic character tick.
The Sonic the Hedgehog DNA Figure project is a collaboration between SEGA and Shibuya-based design firm LOM BABY. Previously, LOM BABY has worked with Capcom to produce a real version of Resident Evil's iconic T-Virus, while another figure was released for Expo 2025 supposedly containing alien DNA.
According to the company's official Instagram account, LOM BABY describes itself as a "science collective exploring the birth of life, bringing together artists, engineers, scientists, and creators across disciplines."
With regard to what actually makes up the DNA of one of gaming's most iconic characters, the promotional video shown above offers a good idea. Ten different aspects of the blue blur are highlighted along with footage from past games, including a "heroic mind" and "hydrolimit." Finally, the last shot shows a metallic Sonic statue with a green Chaos Emerald suspended in its chest, where the DNA will supposedly be located.
The idea of creating DNA for a fictional character is obviously ludicrous, but it's all part of a wider initiative to celebrate 35 years since the first Sonic game released in 1991. If you're in Shibuya on June 23, you can check out the official unveiling at the Sega store in the Parco mall.
