Twin Engine's new web manga label Bibibi Comic has gotten off to a flying start, with its first issue getting a reprint just days after release.
Despite ostensibly being a new home for web manga, Bibibi Comic put out a physical founding issue on August 7 in bookstores nationwide comprised mainly of one-shots and "chapter zero" for more regular serializations. Just four days later, the editorial department announced that it was ordering a reprint due to massive demand. Stock should reach store shelves in a couple of weeks.
As to why, part of the reason is no doubt because this first issue carried the first chapter of the very first spinoff associated with Cosmic Princess Kaguya, titled Chou Kaguya Meshi!. Even though the film released almost half a year at this point, it still enjoys immense popularity among younger demographics and will actually receive additional screenings in September.
Unlike recent reprint news, scalping doesn't seem to have much of a role to play here. A cursory look at such reselling sites as Mercari and Yahoo Auctions reveal a significant lack of listings, suggesting that the demand is driven by purer intentions. That being said, the first issue of Bibibi Comic does come with a clear card depicting several characters from Cosmic Princess Kaguya, which could end up becoming a collector's item.
Bandai will certainly be happy about the news, considering that they just formed a strategic partnership for IP development with Twin Engine, the company behind the new label.
