A new branch of Yodobashi Camera, one of Japan's largest technology and lifestyle retailers, attached to one of the busiest stations in the country seems like a recipe for success. That being said, Yodobashi Ikebukuro has made a stinky meal of it.
Warning: Some images in this article are not exactly pleasant to look at.
Not even a week after the new store opened, one social media user shared an image of staff members cleaning up what looked to be human excrement in front of an escalator. Then, two days later, another image surfaced of a register closed with excrement clearly in front of it. To make matters worse, a foul smell began to come from one of the escalators in the store on July 6, possibly because excrement had gotten caught inside.

Even now, the store is suffering from repeated incidents of what is now being dubbed "poop terrorism." Several theories have been floated online as to the perpetrator, including a potential case of corporate sabotage by direct competitor Bic Camera, but there is no evidence to suggest that this was anything but an unfortunate case of poor bladder control. When interviewed by Shueisha Online, an employee at a nearby store remarked that this kind of incident does tend to happen from time to time.
Yodobashi Camera has yet to comment on the situation.
