It looks like Pyontaro and the Small Three's intergalactic adventure will be ending very soon. The official X account for Yuki Ikeda's Thunder 3 confirmed that the next issue of Monthly Shonen Magazine will carry the final chapter of the series. Set to go on sale on June 5, the manga will round out at 39 chapters.
Back in October 2024, scrmbl writer Jacob Parker-Dalton called the science fiction series "simply the best manga right now." While there was some worrying subtext, the synergy between the abstract presentation and the exciting plot made it absolutely unmissable. In particular, lovers of Gantz will feel right at home as Hiroya Oku’s series is cited as a primary influence.
Kodansha is publishing the series in English. Up to eight books have now been released. The first volume is described as follows:
Pyontaro is a middle schooler whose little sister, Futaba, simply adores him. One day, he and his buddies—the so-called “Small Three”—decide to watch a weird disc their teacher lent them. Little do the boys realize this disc is linked to another universe…and while they aren’t looking, Futaba gets sucked in! Can Pyontaro and his friends find Futaba? And just what is this other world they’ve discovered?!
An anime adaptation will premiere in July, just after the manga comes to an end. The animation studio has yet to be confirmed, but the voice cast is made up of Sayumi Suzushiro (You and I Are Polar Opposites, The Elusive Samurai) as Pyontaro, Natsumi Kawaida (MAO, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End) as Tsubame, Eri Akiyama (My Hero Academia: Vigiliantes, My Hero Academia) as Hiroshi, and Honoka Mitsubachi as Futaba.
