Japanese singer-songwriter 7co (pronounced Nanako) has announced the release of their major debut single, “nekojarashi,” scheduled for July 5. The track will serve as the opening theme song for the upcoming second season of the TV anime You and I Are Polar Opposites.

Written specifically for the series, 7co has said the song uses the imagery of a resilient foxtail plant to express the bittersweet feelings of young love and fleeting emotions of youth. The digital release of the single will coincide with the anime's season premiere.

Reflecting on the creation of the track, 7co shared:

“When I first read the manga, I seriously started wondering if there was any way to become a student again. I also became completely obsessed with Tani-kun’s cat, ‘Tempura’, to the point that every lyric in my first demo probably included the word ‘Tempura.’ During recording, I imagined Suzuki-san the entire time, and I sang in a slightly different tone than I usually do.”

The debut marks a busy period for the artist. On the same day the single releases, 7co will host their first self-produced live showcase, titled “75 no Hi vol.1.” The artist has also been confirmed to perform at the Summer Sonic 2026 music festival later this year.
