Eiichiro Oda's One Piece has announced two new anime films, including what could be the franchise's first theatrical adaptation.
The first, scheduled to release in Summer 2027, is titled One Piece Film: God Valley in a clear reference to the God Valley Incident from the original manga. While it was subsequently erased from world history, this fictional event resulted in the slaughter of thousands of innocent civilians as the World Government attempted to carry out a purge on the descendants of Davy D. Jones. As a result, Marshall D. Teach was left as the only living member.
Interestingly enough, this part of the manga has already been partially adapted in the TV series. More specifically, chapters 1095 and 1096 formed the basis of episodes 1129 and 1130 to tell the backstory of Bartholomew Kuma, but there are still a handful of chapters about the incident that could form the basis of a film. This would mark the very first time that the franchise has chosen to adapt material from the manga in a theatrical form, given that all other films up until this point have used original stories.
Speaking of original stories, the second film might mark a return to this tried and tested formula. Titled One Piece Film: BaaD and set to release in 2029, there doesn't appear to be any obvious link to the original manga. All of this is speculation based on titles alone, however, so we'll just have to wait and see.
