Despite the ease of access that streaming has brought to the distribution of music, the volume that's released can make it a daunting task to find unique new stuff every week. In this recurring weekly feature we put together a short list of new songs from the past week that stand out amongst all the noise and deserve a spot in your rotation.
All songs featured in this recurring series can be found in our scrmbl selection 2026 playlist on Apple Music or Spotify.
Ryo: Philosophy No Dance go about their final single as any other, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The idol group’s disco-funk anthems celebrate the now and letting the music bring out your best self. They preach this until their last hour with the songwriters who back the group during their indie days. While there’s inevitably some sense of farewell in the lyrics, they embrace the moment and groove on with the knowledge that their philosophy is in good hands.
Ryo: JUBEE’s ’s punk energy, built from digital hardcore and mixture rap, winds down into a more bedroom-pop vibe familiar to his collaborator lilbesh ramko. “Less is more,” the two both intone here to a whittled-down boom-bap beat as they try to relieve some weight off their shoulders. The thing about a lilbesh ramko production, though, is that no matter how settled the atmosphere, it eventually sounds like his brain’s on fire. This collab is no different with the chillness soon crashing down to the sound of distorted kicks and screeching synths, like they’re experiencing the worst hardware malfunction.
Patrick: The beauty of fried rice is the way disparate flavors come together to create something irresistible. Fittingly for a song about the dish, duo KOMAGOME mix up surprising elements for the service of a funky song. After a bit of preperatorial flair via a vaporwave intro, the pair stir in funkiness with some guitar smoothness and percussive pogoing, over which they deliver vocals that gradually heat up into distorted shouts. Add in a bongo-powered breakdown and bleary-eyed singing, and now you're cooking.
Patrick: Osaka's Le Makeup has a way of balancing between the rumbling and the transient. New song “block party,” the latest preview of his forthcoming full-length, moves ahead on a hip-hop inspired skitter, but any party-starting power is countered by a delicate piano line looping over it. It, coupled with the artist's own singing, adds a bittersweet atmosphere to it all without losing the rumble that gives it life.
Patrick: Some things just belong together...like Strong-Zero-coarsing-through-his-veins rapper rirugiliyangugili and a track made by Internet rap collective / shitposter legion Shadow Wizard Money Gang. Joined by fellow chaos agent Yungster Jack, “MECHAKUCHA” is claustrophobic near-gabber punctuated by snarls and samples. Extremely online, but extremely exciting.
Ryo: When it comes to collaborations, GALFY knows how to assemble them. For the latest promo track from their upcoming GALFY Gaiden EP, the apparel brand unites a trio of hyperpop misfits over a hard bass production laced with glittery synths, crunchy drum breaks and Jersey-club squeaks. While each of their personalities shine through —Ru-a, the cocksure out of the bunch, and Bukkoromomoka, the BFF ready to get back at your haters — the bashful voice of killwiz sings of the spirit behind the collab: “Dress yourself up, bring up the vibes / be someone else!”
