Despite the ease of access that streaming has brought to the distribution of music, the volume that's released can make it a daunting task to find unique new stuff every week. In this recurring weekly feature we put together a short list of new songs from the past week that stand out amongst all the noise and deserve a spot in your rotation.
All songs featured in this recurring series can be found in our scrmbl selection 2026 playlist on YouTube, Apple Music or Spotify.
Ryo: Benjazzy and Bonbero team up as B2B for a new duet album out later this month after appearing on a number of each other’s tracks over the years, and the first song from the project finds the rappers deep in their element: introspecting about their hustle over a tough, skittering beat. The instrumental calmly skates like a muted, slowed-down UK grime record while the glazed keyboards set a solemn mood for the duo’s mind to freely wander. Benjazzy’s gruff vocals dominate as he lays down the roughness as evoked in his rhymes. Bonbero sounds lighter on his feet, playing the smoother foil to balance out his partner’s presence.
Patrick: Indie supergroup of sorts Kimiga Shikakuku Narumaeni find a path between the everyday and the fantastical. The group — consisting of players from a variety of bands and projects across Japan, connected by the internet but not defined by it — showcased this wonderfully on its debut album earlier this year, while its latest single pushes the emotion even further. While never tipping fully over into shoegaze, the band brings more of a buzz to this number, which adds extra sharpness to a song where the vocals have to go even bigger to deliver the longing over it all.
Patrick: Band Lucky Kilimanjaro has always mixed lines between the live house and the club, both musically and in terms of exploring euphoria via their lyrics. “DAY1” makes that blur even more literal with woozy electronic touches rippling through a song split between band chug and house squelch. Together, it all points towards optimism and release, the group's calling card.
Patrick: Duo Pasocom Music Club have operated in many moods and modes over their career, ranging from dance-pop to rap experiments to house revelry. For latest single “wonders,” they are moving back towards a simpler structure where the focus can fall completely on their own song building process and the emotions they can pull out of it. Here they play with a simple beat, some synthesizer throb and a few samples weaved in...but bend it around to form something fluttery. An inviting track showing how keeping it pared back can still work to their advantage.
Ryo: Double Clapperz here shows off an irresistible sample chop, cooking chipmunk soul that fires off a round of sputtering drums—it’s part Heatmakerz, part UK grime. Warm and nostalgic as the sped-up sample hits, though, ralph raps about a rather gloomy slice of life in this bouncy track. “Standing in this city of Tokyo where the seasons don’t change / waiting for someone to tell me it’s all OK,” guest rapper VERRY SMoL sighs in the chorus while his collaborator contemplates out loud about listlessness with his head hanging low.
Ryo: Super Climbing Club allow themselves to cool out a bit in their new track now that the band has put out their debut full-length earlier this summer. While the song sounds as sprightly as the sparkling soft-rock of their self-titled LP, a groovy guitar lick loosens up the formal ensemble into more of a dance band feeling their own jazzy beat. As they get so caught up in the music at hand, the beats and rhythms become the language in which for the band to voice their own reservations. “I wanna leave it up to these uncertain steps / the smallest of adventures,” vocalist hina sings, and from the jaunty pop of “michikusa,” Super Climbing Club make the unknown sound like a thrill.
