The roll cake is one of those go-to convenience store desserts that might not excite, but always comes through. Lawson, in particular, excels at a solid offering apt for sweet tooth cravings. They also aren't afraid to experiment with the form.
Their latest twist on the humble roll cake comes via a collaboration with Nasu-based sweets maker Cheesegarden. Their signature is baked cheesecake, so for this limited-time link up with Lawson they've taken the familiar circular cake and plopped a smaller version of what they are best known for right in the middle.
The edges of this one taste...exactly like a Lawson roll cake. It's good, and this konbini in particular does cream well. But the reason this one is going out of your way for is that Cheesegarden touch, which is indeed very tasty with a nice savory cheese flavor that offers a good balance to the sweetness around it. It's a welcom mutation on a familiar treat.
