A planned collaboration between Tochigi Prefecture and popular virtual YouTuber Laplus Darkness has been put on hold following a series of controversial comments.
In a post from October 22, the official X account for Tochigi explained that a previously announced video where Laplus explored the Kentou area would no longer go online due to "various circumstances." The sixth generation hololive talent was chosen as a Tochigi Future Ambassador back in May, joining various actors, athletes, and other notable local figures in a promotional role. As part of this, a series of videos were planned to showcase different parts of the prefecture.

While the remarks towards male fans are not mentioned in the post, the timing is more than a little suspicious. Cover did issue a statement to address the situation on October 21, but it did little to quell the fallout. Just how this will affect the rest of the campaign remains to be seen.
