Ending 2024 with a bang, exA-Arcadia has dropped the long awaited arcade conversion of the belt action/beat-em-up game Jitsu Squad on their flagship hardware platform globally. While Jitsu Squad itself has been available on home consoles since 2022, this arcade port features exclusive playable characters in the form of the Samurai Pizza Cats! Considering how rare it is that the Cat Ninden Teyandee license gets used, even in Japan, this is a pretty awesome thing for fans of the classic TV anime.
The game itself is your typical beat-em-up affair with up to 4 players available simultaneously if the cabinet allows. You can choose from any of the original Jitsu Squad characters, or the Pizza Cats (although all available screenshots only show Speedy/Yattarou playable with Polly/Pururun and Guido/Sukashi seemingly support characters) to take on the troves of enemies that stand in your way.
The original Jitsu Squad was developed by Netherlands based developer TANUKI CREATIVE STUDIO, with exA's in house team working alongside them to co-develop the arcade conversion. exA-Arcadia has shown immense care in their ports and adaptations of other original titles like Gimmick! EXACT MIX and BATSUGUN EXA LABEL, boasting "perfect renditions" and even better lag response than the original games.
While exA-Arcadia's core userbase is in Japan, they have also taken care to make the game available in English and even displayed the game earlier in the year at North America's Amusement Expo International. It's a great thing to see more traditional style arcade games being made available internationally in a time when most overseas offerings are in the form of redemption games or cabinets with gimmicks that require a custom machine.
The software kit for the game is available now directly from eXA-Arcadia.
