Dragon Quest X is reaching the end of its main story after 14 years, with more content on the way.
The mid-to-long term development plans for the long-running MMORPG were revealed in an anniversary special on August 2. While the main story will come to a conclusion in version 8.4, this is still more than a year away with new patches being released every fifteen to seventeen weeks. A variety of post-story updates are also planned, organized around three different pillars.

Starting from left to right, the first pillar is 'Story', featuring epilogues related to the main scenario and characters as well as something called the 'Traveller's Chronicle'. The second is 'Characters and Battle', centering around new weapons and an increased level cap. Lastly, 'Fashion' promises more customizability for players through new gear and housing options.
Given that Dragon Quest X never released outside of Japan in online form, it is sometimes easy to forget that this online RPG has entertained thousands of players for more than a decade. With Final Fantasy XIV continuing to add new content in the form of expansions, it's encouraging to see that Square Enix isn't abandoning this title either any time soon.
