The latest adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's legendary manga finally has a release date! Netflix announced on May 5 that WIT STUDIO's new series, titled THE ONE PIECE, will hit the platform in February 2027. In addition, the anime's scope and run time have been revealed, giving fans a solid idea of what to expect.
It's been almost three years since THE ONE PIECE was initially announced at Jump Festa in 2023. Since then, Eiichiro Oda's manga has entered its final arc, the long-running anime by Toei Animation has moved to a different time slot, the live action series has released up to season two, and the trading card game is bigger than ever. There's certainly no lack of content to satisfy ONE PIECE fans, but the prospect of experiencing Luffy and the Straw Hats' adventures once again from the beginning under the stewardship of WIT STUDIO was always a tantalising one.

Four weeks ago, Netflix unveiled an exclusive "Inside the Creation" video that showed off some early character designs and teased an imminent release date. Now, a press release has confirmed that THE ONE PIECE is slated to release sometime in February 2027 with a new key visual that depicts a young Luffy and Shanks. You can almost hear the protagonist's brass declaration: "I'm gonna be king of the pirates!"
Moreover, Netflix has now confirmed that the new series will cover the East Blue Saga up until Luffy meets Sanji over the course of seven total episodes. This means cramming about 50 chapters into just over 300 minutes of runtime, alleviating any concerns that this latest adaptation would encounter the same issues of pacing that plagues the Toei anime. Whether or not a second season will continue beyond the Baratie arc and even into the Alabasta Saga remains to be seen.
