Pokémon TCG Pocket is set to receive its 3rd expansion, titled Spacetime Smackdown in English, at the end of January worldwide. The mobile version of the popular card game has been a hit with fans globally since its release, making this 2nd expansion dropping so soon a very good play in keeping the userbase happy.
The momentum of new content for TCG pocket (as well as some other features of the game) seem to be mimicking that of the Japanese physical release, which sees several smaller new sets dropping every quarter instead of one large one like other markets. With demand for the cards still as high as ever, and modern sets selling out instantly worldwide, this digital product is surely scratching an itch for players and collectors alike.
In addition to the new set, which is based on the 4th generation of the Pokémon franchise, it has been announced that the highly anticipated trading functionality will also be coming to the app a day ahead of the new set. Although it seems like perfect timing, the rules surrounding trading have left a lot of fans a bit put off as not all cards can be traded and users can only exchange matching rarities with other players. Maybe the actual response from players once the option is available will result in changes down the line that open it up a bit more.
The new set, Spacetime Smackdown, hits the app on January 30, 2025 in Japan with trading opening up on January 29.
