The cast for Hirokazu Kore-eda's live action adaptation of Look Back has been announced. In addition, the film's second trailer has streamed online, offering a further look at the award-winning director's take on Tatsuki Fujimoto's original manga.
First of all, taking up the role of Ayumu Fujino will be Natsuki Deguchi, best known for I Have a S/e/c/r/e/t/ and All Greens. Interestingly enough, she made her debut back in 2020 as young Isabella in The Promised Neverland, another live action adaptation of a Jump manga. Kyomoto, meanwhile, will be played by Aju Makita.
Mikata has actually worked with Kore-eda before, playing Sayaka Shibata in Shoplifters. The director remarked in a comment that "Back when I read the original manga, I had plans to meet up with Mikata-san and I said to her that 'If I ever get to adapt this story, I'll be calling on you.' This was before I ever got the offer. After that, I remember that we went to the bookstore and I bought her a copy."
Look Back's new trailer, featured above, shows off more footage from the film. A teaser trailer was released back in December 2025, but conspicuously did not name any cast member nor show many clear shots of the characters' faces. In any case, both are reminiscent of Kore-eda's usual slow, naturalistic style.
Furi Nanase and Rokka Okada will also play young Ayumu and Kyomoto respectively when the film releases in Japan on September 11.
