The 2024 MUTEK.JP festival is upon us, and details have been revealed about one of the stand out showcases of the event in collaboration with ETERNAL Art Space. The traveling artist collective is presenting an audiovisual installation featuring 2 works from Japanese artist Ryoichi Kurokawa, and a collaborative piece from Italian artists SPIME.IM + AKASHA.
The first of Ryoichi Kurokawa's works is an 8 minute projection, sound, and light installation titled re-assembli, which uses architectural scale to demonstrate the relationship between nature and human-made structures. The piece makes use of a single projection coupled with 4.1 sound and surround lighting to immerse the viewer.
Kurokawa's next piece, titled ground, is a 12 minute audiovisual installation that reconstructs images and sounds capture in the Middle East over a dozen years. These images depict a range of situations and viewpoints that relate to the conflict and war the region has long faced, and aims to deliver an strong emotional effect to viewers as they reflect on these events.
Wrapping up the installation is a collaborative piece from Italian artists SPIME.IM and AKASAHA titled HINT. This piece combines AI art experiments with aesthetics of information overload and the concept of a capitalist apocalypse. It's said to be "an eye-opening journey that pushes artists and social boundaries".
The 3 works, making up a 35 minute experience, will be hosted at Hikarie Hall B in Shibuya from November 22, 2024 until November 24, 2024. Tickets for the event are on sale now via ZAIKO (NOV 22 - SAT 23 - SUN 24) with a limited number of screenings each day. Entry is ¥2500 for adults and ¥1500 for students.
