This certainly wasn't on our bingo cards for 2024. Especially not after the Space Battleship Yamato announcement in October.
Out of nowhere this morning, Bandai Namco announced a new Gundam series being co-produced by studio khara and SUNRISE titled Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX (pronounced "G-Quacks"). The series is debuting as a movie in Japan compiled from episodes of the TV series titled Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- in January 2025 with a script from Yoji Enokido and Hideaki Anno. The project also includes character designs from take, and other design works by a who's-who of contributors (including some designs from Anno as well). You can check out the full staff list & announced cast here.
The synopsis from the official website comes off as pretty cliche with a teenage girl, Amate Yuzuriha, getting into illegal mobile suit sports upon meeting a refugee, Nyaan, and then encountering a mysterious mobile suit and its pilot, Shuji, who are being pursued by the space force and police. It's a very bare bones rundown, but knowing the team involved and just looking at the trailer it's not hard to see that it's definitely going to be far more exciting.
We're sure that more information is going to trickle out as we get closer to the Japanese theatrical release date on January 17, 2025. We'll just have to wait with bated breath until then, and given how things look so far it sure seems like it's going to be worth it.
