Music Awards Japan (MAJ) just dropped the first batch of details for this year’s big celebration, and it’s looking like a massive week for Japanese music fans.
Last year the event celebrated the works of Yellow Magic Orchestra with a live event jam-packed with a who's-who of guest performers amongst other scattered live events, but this year they're going even bigger this year with the announcement of MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN WEEK. In the days leading up to the 2 day award ceremony, numerous live events are being held that not only cross genres but celebrate the diversity that the Japanese music industry fosters.
Events happening during Music Awards Japan Week include:
To keep the hype going, pop star Kento Nakajima and actress Mei Hata have signed on as special ambassadors for Music Awards Japan this year as well. Everything leads up to the main ceremony on Saturday, June 13, at the Toyota Arena Tokyo.
Also at the press conference in Shinagawa today where these events were announced, officials revealed they’ve received over 2,000 entries across the 78 different award categories for this year's event. While we're reserving our judgment until we see the final list of nominees next month, there are definitely some across different categories that had us raising our eyebrows. It's going to be an interesting group this year for sure.
