Ringing in the New Year is a pretty big deal in Japan and to celebrate, Kichijoji's GALLERY ZENON has amassed a talented list of 40 artists to share artwork expressing the theme of "New Year's greetings" with visitors starting today. The gallery, which is operated by manga publisher Coamix, will be decked out in celebratory New Year decorations while the attached cafe features some festive new items on their menu.
The list of artists with works appearing at the gallery range from famous manga illustrators like Tetsuo Hara, Tsukasa Hojo, and Kia Asamiya to calligraphers, painters, sculptors, and designers. In addition to having their pieces on display (and for sale, if so desired) New Year fortunes will be on sale, and a corner of the gallery is being dedicated to allow visitors to write their own New Year's cards to the creators themselves.
The cafe menu has been updated to include "Seven Lucky New Year Udon", which includes 7 toppings that are said to bring good fortune, herb sake, and a crispy monaka dessert. Each item from the cafe includes a fortune cookie that has a New Year fortune inside.
GALLERY ZENON is located near Kichijoji Station in Tokyo (accessible by the JR Chuo Line or Keio Inokashira line), and entry is free. The MANGA × NENGA exhibition will be running through January 26, 2025.
More details, including a full list of participating artists, can be found on the official GALLERY ZENON website for the event.
