Two of Japan's most famous families are finally crossing paths. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Chibi Maruko-chan and the 35th anniversary of Crayon Shin-chan, a special collaboration manga is hitting the pages of Ribon magazine and the official Crayon Shin-chan website this April.
The crossover kicks off on April 3 in the pages of Ribon, where the Nohara family visits Maruko’s hometown in Shizuoka. Things get chaotic quickly when Maruko and Shin-chan end up lost together. The fun continues in New Crayon Shin-chan on April 3 and April 20 via the official Crayon Shin-chan website, as the Sakura family travels to Kasukabe.
Sakura Production mentioned that because both shows value "the humor and happiness found in daily life," seeing the characters hang out was a "joyful and precious experience."
The crew at UY Studio admitted that while having Maruko exist in Shin-chan’s world felt a little surreal at first, the chemistry was perfect. They noted that "the conversations between the Sakura and Nohara families have a better rhythm than we imagined."
Beyond the manga, keep an eye out for a special collaboration pouch included as a bonus with Ribon magazine and upcoming pop-up shops featuring new artwork.
